Thousands of New York Metro area customers have chosen East Coast Power & Gas since 2008. We look forward to becoming your preferred supplier of natural gas and/or electricity. Here are our answers to the questions we’re asked most often.
Why East Coast Power & Gas?
East Coast helps you take control of your energy bill so you can save today, and tomorrow. As a reputable Energy Supply Company (ESCO), we offer highly competitive pricing for natural gas and electricity. Our energy efficiency professionals can audit, recommend, install and service money-saving energy equipment and solutions.
What is deregulation?
Deregulation opened the market to competition giving you the power to choose where you buy your energy. Prior to deregulation your local utility was your only option and you had to pay the rate that the utility charged. Now you can choose from a number of energy supply companies (ESCOs) and select the one that provides you with the options and prices that best meets your needs. Regardless of which ESCO you enroll with, your local utility still delivers your energy, provides billing and emergency service.
Can East Coast Power & Gas really save me money on my monthly energy bill?
East Coast Power & Gas buys large blocks of energy in the wholesale market, using technology and smart financial principles to buy at lower rates, passing on the savings to you. ESCOs, like East Coast Power & Gas, also have lower overhead than the utilities, as well as fixed pricing models that can be especially valuable to businesses and homeowners on a budget. Commercial customers can also save on state sales taxes on the delivery portion of their bill when choosing an ESCO.
Will I receive two separate monthly bills for my energy?
No. You will continue to receive a single bill from your utility each month. The bill will identify East Coast Power & Gas as your energy supply company.
Will my utility reduce service if I switch suppliers?
No. The utility companies have no problem with energy deregulation. Many utilities promote the fact that you can save money by switching. In fact, some even offer special incentives to assist you with switching to an ESCO like East Coast.
If I am already enrolled with an ESCO can I switch?
Yes, you can. Just click here, fill in the required information, and you’ll be set. There is nothing else for you to do. We will handle the switch. Of course, if you have questions, call us at 800.545.9155 during business hours to talk to a person (not a machine) for help!
If I switch suppliers, will there be any interruption in service?
No. The switch from one supplier to another is seamless.
If I switch suppliers, when will my service start?
Once approval for the switch is received from the utility, East Coast will be your supplier of record as of your next meter read date.
How will I know if my enrollment was accepted?
Once you have been accepted and your switch has been approved, you will receive an email from East Coast and a confirmation letter from your utility.
Can I terminate my agreement with you at any time?
This depends upon the type of service that you’ve signed up for. In the case of our variable rate plans, you can terminate at any time without penalty. If you are in a fixed-rate plan, penalties may apply. We recommend that you review your terms of service or agreement prior before you decide. If you are unsure or what help, please do not hesitate to give us a call.
Do I pay a higher rate for peak hour usage than for off-peak usage?
No. We charge you a single rate regardless of when the power is used.

Very little changes, actually! The utility will continue to send you the bill, continue to read your meter and maintain your service. And, if you have an emergency related to your natural gas, you will still call your utility.
